Ituri Province, September 22 (Hibya) – The latest data on the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been released. According to figures published on Monday, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country rose to 7,672, while the death toll increased to 3,699.

According to a report issued by the country’s National Institute of Public Health, the overall case fatality rate in the outbreak was recorded at 48.2 percent. A total of 1,879 patients have recovered, while 886 people are reportedly receiving treatment in hospitals or are in quarantine.
The outbreak was reported to have affected 63 health zones in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele, Tshopo, Bas-Uele and Sud-Ubangi.
The current outbreak, declared in May, has reportedly since become the largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It was also stated that the outbreak is the second-largest Ebola outbreak worldwide after the 2014–2016 outbreak in West Africa.
