Beigbeder: All children must be protected from all forms of violence and harm
Amman, January 11 (Hibya) – UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Edouard Beigbeder called for all children to be protected from all forms of violence and harm amid ongoing social unrest in Iran.
Edouard Beigbeder said they are concerned by ongoing reports of children and adolescents being killed and injured in the context of continuing social unrest in Iran.
Emphasizing that UNICEF demands the protection of all children from all forms of violence and harm, Beigbeder said: “Children must be protected from any actions that endanger their lives, their freedom, or their mental and physical health.”
Beigbeder stressed that Iranian authorities, protest participants, communities, and families must take all necessary measures to protect children, adding: “Security forces must avoid the use of unnecessary or disproportionate force, and children should not be in environments that put them at risk or deprive them of their liberty.”
