Berendsen: Greater respect must be shown for the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea
Amsterdam, July 24 (Hibya) - Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced that he co-chaired a session on maritime security and cooperation with his Singaporean counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan.
Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen highlighted the details of the session and the importance of open sea lanes, emphasizing freedom of navigation and international law.
Speaking about the session they co-chaired and its main message, Berendsen said: "Together with my Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan, I chaired a session on maritime security and cooperation. Our message was clear: in today's interconnected world, the need for open sea lanes is of vital importance."
Berendsen concluded his statement by saying: "Freedom of navigation and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea must be respected more than ever."
