Blinken recognizes opposition as winner of Venezuela's elections
Washington, August 2 (Hibya) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has claimed that opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez won Venezuela's presidential election.
Blinken's announcement comes after the opposition released more than 80 percent of the tally sheets it received directly from polling stations across Venezuela.
“Given the overwhelming evidence, it is clear to the United States, and most importantly to the Venezuelan people, that Edmundo Gonzalez received the most votes in Venezuela's July 28 presidential election,” Antony Blinken said.
On Sunday, Venezuela's electoral authority announced that incumbent president Nicolas Maduro had won re-election with 51 percent of the vote.
