Canada reacts to Iran: A Canadian citizen has died
Ottawa, January 15 (Hibya) – Canadian Minister of National Defence Anita Anand announced that a Canadian citizen has died in Iran as a result of the intervention of Iranian authorities.
Canadian Minister of National Defence Anita Anand stated that a Canadian citizen has died in Iran following the intervention of Iranian authorities.
In a statement shared on her social media account, Anand said that Canadian consular officials are in contact with the victim’s family in Canada and conveyed her condolences to the family.
Anand said that the Iranian people are trying to make their voices heard through peaceful protests, but that the Iranian authorities have responded with repression and ongoing human rights violations. Emphasizing that this situation clearly shows a disregard for human life, Anand stated that the violence must come to an end.
Noting that Canada condemns the violence carried out by the Iranian authorities, Anand called for an immediate end to the violence in Iran.
