Carney: These actions further violate the status quo in Jerusalem
Ottawa, March 29 (Hibya) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that he was disappointed by the Israeli police’s decision to prevent the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and Christian communities from holding the pre-Easter Sunday service at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made a statement regarding the status of holy sites in Jerusalem and restrictions on freedom of worship.
Carney said: "I was disappointed by the Israeli police’s decision to prevent the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and Christian communities in the Holy Land from holding the pre-Easter Sunday service at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre."
Emphasizing the importance of religious freedom, Carney stated: "These actions further violate the long-standing status quo of Jerusalem’s holy sites. In Jerusalem, people of all faiths must be able to worship freely, fully, and without fear."
Highlighting the involvement of Israeli President Isaac Herzog in the process, Prime Minister Carney said: "I welcome President Herzog’s outreach to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, to reaffirm this."
