CENTCOM: 29 ships ordered to turn back under maritime blockade on Iran
Washington, April 22 (Hibya) - The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that 29 commercial vessels were ordered to turn back or dock at ports as part of the maritime blockade against Iran, stating that some claims about “breaking the blockade” are not accurate.
CENTCOM issued a new statement regarding maritime operations against Iran.
The statement said that U.S. forces ordered 29 vessels to turn back or dock at the nearest port under the maritime blockade imposed on Iran.
CENTCOM noted that media reports in the past 24 hours claiming that several commercial ships had breached the blockade do not reflect reality.
The statement said: “In the past 24 hours, media reports citing M/V Hero II, M/V Hedy and M/V Dorena have claimed that several commercial ships bypassed the blockade. These reports are incorrect.”
CENTCOM stated that the Hero II and Hedy vessels did not breach the blockade “as part of a fleet carrying millions of barrels of oil.” It also claimed that Iranian-flagged tankers anchored at the Port of Chabahar after being stopped earlier this week by U.S. forces.
The Dorena vessel was said to be accompanied by a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Indian Ocean due to a previous attempt to violate the blockade.
The statement emphasized that the U.S. military has the capability to conduct operations in global seas and that monitoring activities of maritime traffic continue in the Middle East and surrounding regions.
