Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with personnel at HMAS Albatross base and delivered a condolence message for Senior Chief Petty Officer Lachlan Muddle, who lost his life in a training accident.

Albanese noted that Muddle’s friends and colleagues experienced deep sorrow following the accident.

In his statement, he extended condolences to Muddle’s family, relatives, colleagues, and the broader defence community, saying: "We hold their hearts in our hearts. And as we reflect on this striking reminder that there are no easy days for those who serve, we express our thanks for everything they do. The nation extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues of Senior Chief Petty Officer Lachlan Muddle and the wider Defence Force community mourning this tragic loss. May he rest in peace."
