Costa: The 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is excellent news
Brussels, April 16 (Hibya) – European Council President Antonio Costa said that the short-term ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, brokered under U.S. leadership, is good news.
Antonio Costa shared the EU’s perspective on the feasibility of the ceasefire, Lebanon’s sovereignty, and the situation of armed groups in the region.
Welcoming the ceasefire decision, Costa said: “The 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is excellent news. Now it must be implemented on the ground and verified.”
Emphasizing the importance of negotiations, Costa added: “Israel and Lebanon must engage in meaningful negotiations that will deliver concrete results for their peoples and enable a sustainable peace.”
Referring to the key condition for Lebanon’s stability, Costa stated: “The EU will continue to support Lebanon. Empowering authorities to disarm Hezbollah is the only sustainable solution to restore stability.”
