According to the poll by the Pew Research Center, a Washington-based think tank, the American public is evenly divided on the level of US assistance to Ukraine. 49 percent say Washington has no responsibility to help Kyiv, and 48 percent say it does.

A similar poll conducted a year ago by the Reagan Institute found that 59 percent of Americans favoured military aid to Ukraine. A June 2023 Gallup poll found that 62 percent of Americans support US efforts to help Kyiv.

The latest poll showing declining support was released on the same day the US Department of Defense announced it would send at least $200 million worth of air defence systems and other weapons to Ukraine and pledged another $1.5 billion in long-term support to Kyiv.

Since the start of the conflict between Kyiv and Moscow in February 2022, the Biden Administration has allocated more than $55.4 billion in “security assistance” to Ukraine, including a wide range of lethal weapons.

Also on Monday, US government debt reached a new horrifying milestone, surpassing the $35 trillion mark for the first time in history.
