UN Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher emphasized the fight against the global food crisis, the humanitarian situation in conflict zones, and the importance of emergency relief funds.

Drawing attention to the dangers revealed by the newly published report, Fletcher said: “The new Integrated Food Security Phase Classification warnings underline the risk of famine across Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan.”

Listing the causes of the humanitarian tragedy in the region, Fletcher stated: “Conflict, displacement, funding cuts, and access barriers are pushing millions of people into even deeper hunger.”
