Fletcher meets Somali President Mohamud
Mogadishu, April 28 (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher stated during his meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu that drought, floods, conflict and funding cuts are deepening the country’s fragility.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Fletcher met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in the capital Mogadishu.
During the meeting, the opportunities and challenges facing Somalia were discussed. Fletcher highlighted serious risks affecting the humanitarian situation, stating that droughts, floods, ongoing conflicts and cuts in international funding are complicating the situation.
He also emphasized that disruptions in global trade and logistics, particularly the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, increase the risk of rising prices and shortages of essential goods.
The parties assessed the importance of international support for the sustainability of humanitarian aid and the country’s long-term recovery process.
