Ghebreyesus: We still have a long way to go in the fight against tobacco
Geneva, February 27 (Hibya) - World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that while significant progress has been made in the fight against tobacco, there is still a long way to go.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus marked the 20th anniversary of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
He noted that in the 20 years since the treaty came into effect, global tobacco use has decreased by one-third, and the number of tobacco users has dropped by 118 million, adding:
«We have made great strides in the fight against tobacco, but we still have a long way to go, as tobacco continues to kill millions of people every year. We call on all countries to strengthen the implementation of the convention.»
