United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke about the consequences that the weakening of the rule of law would create, referring to the sustainability of global stability.

Emphasizing that international law applies to everyone, Guterres said, “International law applies to all states without exception. Respecting its rules is not optional.”

Guterres said, “In its absence, instability spreads, mistrust deepens, and conflicts spiral out of control.”

Stating that international law must be reaffirmed, Guterres said, “This is not the time to retreat from international law. It is the time to reaffirm it.”
