United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres posed questions to world leaders about how power should be used during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Guterres said: “The crises facing the world, from wars to climate change, are fundamentally a question of power. Who has power? Who is being denied power? How is power used, and how is it changing?”

Addressing world leaders, Guterres asked: “Will we ensure that power is governed by force or by law? By cooperation or by coercion? Will we act with responsibility toward young people and future generations, or with indifference to their fate?” Guterres said: “The defining issues of our age are different manifestations of power. They will determine whether the world is driven toward deeper division and instability or moves toward cooperation, justice and shared security.”
