Italy and UAE aim to strengthen economic cooperation
Rome, October 21 (Hibya) - Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani held a telephone conversation with United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The discussion covered the Gulf region's strategic role in international security and the economies of both countries, regional developments, and bilateral economic relations.
Tajani stated that the UAE plays an important role in political and security developments across a broad geographical area, from the Strait of Hormuz to Yemen and from Libya to the Horn of Africa. Emphasizing the importance of keeping channels of dialogue open and pursuing joint efforts to reduce regional tensions and achieve lasting peace, Tajani also identified protecting freedom of maritime navigation as a priority.
Tajani noted that Italy is at the forefront of efforts to ensure maritime security through the European Union's ASPIDES naval security mission, adding that these issues would also be discussed at the MEDialogues meetings scheduled to take place in Naples in November.
Tajani stated that he and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed had agreed to further strengthen the economic partnership between their countries. He added that preparations were underway to hold another meeting of the bilateral joint commission in the coming months to boost mutual trade and investment.
