European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas made assessments regarding the security situation on the Lithuania-Belarus border.

Kallas, who visited the Padvarionys Border Post with Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas, said, “Lukashenko has turned Belarus into a platform for Russia's war. His regime threatens its European neighbors and uses illegal migration as a weapon against them.”

Kallas said the sophistication of migrant-smuggling tunnels detected in the region points to organized support, adding that there are strong indications that the Minsk authorities are facilitating these activities.

Emphasizing that Lithuania's border security is a shared European responsibility, Kallas said the Eastern Flank Watch initiative should be accelerated in close cooperation with NATO and that sanctions pressure should be maintained.
