European Union (EU) Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib stated that French civil protection forces are prepared for the wildfire season, emphasizing that the EU is providing strong support to France through personnel, aircraft, and financial assistance.

Highlighting solidarity among European countries and operational preparedness, Lahbib said, “French civil protection forces are ready to fight wildfires. The EU is also supporting them. This summer, 147 firefighters from Italy and Belgium will be deployed to France.”

Sharing details of the EU’s technical and logistical investments, Lahbib concluded her statement with the following information:

“The EU is also financing four Canadair water-bombing aircraft and one helicopter stationed in Nîmes. In 2028, France will host two of the twelve new Canadair aircraft.”
