Lahbib: The ceasefire in the Middle East is overdue
Brussels, April 8 (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib stated that the ceasefire in the Middle East is a delayed step after heavy humanitarian costs, emphasizing that the process should also include Lebanon.
EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib made a statement regarding the humanitarian dimension of the ceasefire agreement and the rules of international law.
Highlighting the destruction caused by the conflicts, Lahbib said: "A ceasefire in the Middle East is long overdue. Lost lives, destroyed homes and millions of displaced people represent an enormous humanitarian cost."
Pointing to the diplomatic framework for lasting peace, Lahbib stated: "Respect for the UN Charter, the Government of National Accord and diplomacy will prevent further crises and ensure peace."
Lahbib concluded with a call regarding the humanitarian situation in Lebanon: "The ceasefire must also include Lebanon, as more than 1 million people there depend on support."
