Lavrov: Russia supports restarting the Black Sea initiative
Moscow, March 25 (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in an interview with Channel One that Russia is in favor of restarting the Black Sea initiative in a more acceptable form for all parties.
The Russian minister noted that the issue was prioritized during yesterday's talks between Russian and American delegations in Riyadh.
Referring to Volodymyr Zelensky, Lavrov said: “Our position is simple: we can't trust this man's word.” He added that Russia wants the “grain and fertilizer markets to be predictable” so that no one tries to “push Russia out of these markets.” Lavrov expressed concern about the food situation in Africa and other global South countries affected by “Western games.”
The Black Sea Initiative, also known as the grain deal, aimed to enable the export of Ukrainian grain from Black Sea ports and normalize the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to global markets.
According to Russia, the West exported most of Ukraine’s grain to its own countries, and the main objective — supplying grain to countries in need — was never fulfilled. Furthermore, commitments to Russia were not honored, leading Moscow to withdraw from the deal in July 2023.
