Lazzarini: More than one million people in Gaza did not receive food aid in August
New York, 2 October (Hibya) – The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, made a statement regarding aid in Gaza.
The Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, stated that more than one million people in Gaza did not receive food aid in August.
In September, this number rose to over 1.4 million. "Hunger is spreading again in Gaza. This is entirely man-made. Almost 70% of agricultural land has been destroyed. The entire population has become entirely dependent on humanitarian aid," Lazzarini said.
He emphasized that worsening weather conditions will lead to more suffering due to the lack of humanitarian supplies and added:
"The way forward is through political will and leadership, the release of all hostages, the opening of additional crossing points, and ensuring safe and unrestricted access to humanitarian aid for those in need."
