The institute's website stated: "At 07:32 Moscow time, an X1.1 flare lasting 5 minutes was recorded in sunspot group number 3932 (S18W50) in the X-ray range. At 07:14 Moscow time, an X1.5 flare lasting 37 minutes was recorded in sunspot group number 3936 (N10W46)."

Solar flares are categorized into five classes based on the intensity of X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M, and X. X-class flares are considered extremely powerful and can cause strong geomagnetic storms.

The Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics also announced that a strong X-class flare and six strong M-class flares were recorded on the Sun the day before.
