The investigation unit, consisting of the Office for Corruption Investigation of Senior Officials, the National Investigation Bureau, and the Ministry of Defense's Investigation Center, stated in a brief announcement that it had submitted the request for an arrest warrant to the Seoul Western District Court against Yoon.

This marks the first time in the country's modern history that an arrest warrant has been requested for a sitting president.

The unit demanded Yoon appear in court for questioning on three occasions—December 18, 25, and 29—but Yoon's side refused to accept the subpoenas, stating that documents for appointing a defense lawyer had not yet been submitted.

Yoon was named by investigation agencies as a suspected leader in an alleged insurrection.
