The statement highlighted that the European Media Freedom Act contributes to protecting journalists and their sources, strengthens editorial independence, and supports media organizations against interference and legal pressure.

Von der Leyen noted that journalists will continue to be supported so they can carry out their duties without pressure, threats, or risk of harm.
