European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a statement regarding recent developments in Iran and the fundamental rights and freedoms of its people.

Sharing her expectations for Iran’s future, von der Leyen said: “There is hope that this moment could open the path toward a free Iran. This is what the Iranian people deserve: freedom, dignity, and the right to decide their own future.”

Highlighting the need for a realistic and determined stance by the international community, von der Leyen added: “But let me point out an important point. Seeing the world as it is does not in any way diminish our determination to fight for the world we want.”
