The European Union and Mexico took an important step to strengthen their relations at the 8th EU–Mexico Summit held in Mexico City. During the summit, the “Modernized Global Agreement” (MGA) and the interim trade agreement (iTA) were signed.

Under the agreement, the parties agreed to increase cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, clean technologies, digital economy, and sustainable development. The deal also aims to strengthen supply chains, align with climate goals, and deepen economic integration.

It was stated that the goal is to further increase the approximately 100 billion euro annual trade volume between the EU and Mexico, especially by creating new opportunities in agriculture, digital services, and energy transition.

The summit also emphasized commitment to multilateralism, human rights, and global institutions, while the parties agreed to work together to strengthen international cooperation and global governance reforms.
