Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the government has significantly accelerated the renewal process of collective bargaining agreements for public sector employees.

Meloni stressed that behind the concept of "public employment" stand millions of workers, including nurses on night shifts, teachers, and civil servants, noting that for years they had been forced to work under expired contracts while waiting for delayed wage increases.

She said her government had changed this practice, noting that 20 collective bargaining agreements had been renewed in the public sector over the past four years, and that with the procedures carried out through the Italian Public Administration Negotiating Agency (ARAN), the total had reached 48.

Meloni stated that the average contract renewal period had been reduced from 20 months to 6 months, emphasizing that this was not merely a technical improvement. "This is not a technical detail. It is a sign of respect for public sector employees," she said.
