Emphasizing the significant contributions of Turkish workers to the country's development, Merz said, "65 years ago, workers from Türkiye came to Germany. They helped build this country, shaped it, and laid the foundations for the prosperity we enjoy today."
Stressing that Turkish workers had become an integral part of society over time, Merz said, "They went from guest workers to citizens; they became our friends, our family, our colleagues, and our neighbors. We thank them for that."
