Michelle Obama on the campaign trail for Harris, Trump courts Muslims
New York, October 27 (Hibya) - With one week left until the U.S. presidential elections, former First Lady Michelle Obama sharply criticized Donald Trump, asking rally-goers in Michigan why Kamala Harris is held to a higher standard than her rival, pointing to Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his attempts to cling to power after losing the 2020 election.
Speaking at a Kalamazoo event for Kamala Harris, Obama said, "I hope you’ll forgive my frustration when we demand Kamala to shine at every turn while some choose to overlook Donald Trump’s glaring incompetence."
Obama urged voters to support Harris, not because she's a woman, but because "Kamala Harris is an adult."
At the Michigan rally, Harris promised to be a president who listens to the American people, in contrast to her opponent. "Imagine the Oval Office in three months," she said. "Either Donald Trump will be occupied with his enemies list, or I’ll be working for you, checking off my to-do list."
Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated that he deserves Muslim voters' support because he will end conflicts and bring peace to the Middle East. Speaking at a rally outside Detroit, Trump said, "That’s all they want," adding that he had met with a group of local imams.
Trump fully supports Israel but has not explained how he will end conflicts in the region. He seems to gain support from some American Muslims dissatisfied with Biden and Harris’s support for Israel.
Despite his first-term immigration ban from several Muslim-majority countries, Imam Belal Alzuhairi from the Detroit Islamic Center joined Trump on stage, saying, "We ask Muslims to stand by President Trump because he promises peace."
