Moderate earthquake hits town on the edge of Italy
Rome, August 2 (Hibya)—Late yesterday, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the southern Italian region of Calabria.
There are no reports yet that the earthquake caused any damage or that anyone was injured.
The Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, INGV, said the quake occurred about three kilometers west of the village of Pietrapaola in the Ionian Sea.
INGV Director General Carlo Doglioni told RaiNews 24 that there have been several tremors in the area in recent days and the institute is monitoring the situation.
“We don't know if this is the biggest earthquake in the process,” Carlo Doglioni said.
