NASA to Lay Off 530 People Due to Budget Cuts
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that 530 employees at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will be laid off due to budget cuts.
In a statement from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), it was reported that after exhausting all other measures to adapt NASA to a lower budget and due to the lack of funding from Congress over the past 24 fiscal years, a difficult decision was made to reduce the workforce at JPL through layoffs.
The statement notes that the reduction in JPL personnel will affect approximately 530 individuals, around 8% of them, as well as around 40 additional members of contractor personnel, and the consequences will be felt in both technical and support areas of the laboratory.
