Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova attended the opening of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly with Bulgaria's official delegation.

According to a statement from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Petrova held bilateral meetings with partners from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa as part of her program in New York. The minister met with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The meetings addressed the development of bilateral relations, international security, trade and investment, energy and strategic connectivity. Petrova said, “Foreign policy gains value when it creates concrete opportunities for the country, such as greater security, stronger economic ties and stronger international partnerships.”

In the meetings with the foreign ministers of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, the strengthening of transport, energy and economic links between Europe, the Middle East and Asia, as well as the development of strategic connectivity, were discussed.

The meetings also reviewed preparations for the Regional Connectivity Summit, which Bulgaria will host in 2027. The statement noted that the forum would provide an opportunity to establish new partnerships and transform regional priorities into concrete projects and investments.
