Portuguese Foreign Ministry: Israeli authorities must guarantee freedom of religion
Lisbon, March 29 (Hibya) - Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the obstruction by Israeli authorities of Jerusalem Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pizzaballa’s entry into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for a service, calling for the protection of freedom of worship.
Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding restrictions on religious worship in Jerusalem.
In the statement, referring to the situation of Jerusalem Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pizzaballa, it said: “The obstruction of Cardinal Pizzaballa’s entry into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre solely for the purpose of holding the Sunday service before Easter must be strongly condemned.”
Reminding Israeli authorities of their responsibilities, the Ministry stated:
“Israeli authorities must guarantee and protect freedom of religion and worship.”
