Prevot: Belgium is preparing new measures to ensure the safety of the Jewish community
Brussels, October 21 (Hibya) - Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot discussed combating antisemitism, the security of Jewish communities and the prevention of hate speech during a meeting with representatives of the American Jewish Committee.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot held a meeting with representatives of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) to discuss combating antisemitism. In a statement following the meeting, Prevot said they had addressed the shared commitment of Belgium and the United States to fighting antisemitism.
Prevot stated, "No one should feel unsafe, hide their identity or fear for their children because they are Jewish." He emphasized that political leaders and civil society organizations must work together on this issue regardless of differences in political views. Prevot stressed that the concerns of Jewish communities must be taken seriously and that disinformation, conspiracy theories and antisemitic stereotypes that fuel hate speech must be confronted.
Minister Prevot said Belgium's commitment to combating antisemitism dated back many years, adding that the government was strengthening cooperation at all levels and preparing new measures. Prevot noted that representatives of Belgium's Jewish community were also participating in these efforts.
Foreign Minister Prevot described the objective of these efforts as "ensuring that Jewish life can flourish in Belgium in safety and dignity."
