Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message to the participants of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which began on April 30, 2026.

In his message, Putin emphasized that the NPT is of fundamental importance for international security in terms of preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Noting that Russia is “one of the depository countries” and a “responsible party” to the treaty, Putin stated that Moscow adheres to both the spirit and the provisions of the agreement.

Highlighting the challenges of the current international environment, Putin said that greater multilateral efforts are needed to achieve progress toward a world free of nuclear weapons, stressing that the security of all countries must be considered equally.

Putin also stated that all countries fulfilling their obligations in good faith have the right to benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and expressed Russia’s readiness to cooperate in this field.

Expressing expectations for “concrete results” from the conference, Putin said the process should contribute to global peace, security, and stability.
