Putin proposes regime change in Ukraine
Moscow, March 28 (Hibya) – According to reports in Russian media, Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed that a temporary government take power in Ukraine until elections are held.
Putin said that the formation of a temporary government could be discussed with the United Nations, the United States, European countries, and Russia's allies. According to the Russian president, once a new government is elected, negotiations for a peace treaty could begin.
Putin has repeatedly questioned the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s government, arguing that his term expired last spring. Elections were not held in Ukraine because martial law has been in effect since the start of the war.
In his statement, Putin said that Russia continues to work toward its military goals. He expressed his belief that U.S. President Donald Trump genuinely wants to end the war, and added that Russia also supports a peaceful resolution to the conflict, provided it does not go against its interests.
A spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council said in response to Putin's remarks that Ukraine’s government system is in accordance with the country’s constitution and is in the hands of the Ukrainian people.
