Qatar condemns drone attack targeting commercial vessel
Doha, May 10 (Hibya) - Qatar condemned a drone attack targeting a commercial cargo ship sailing in its territorial waters. A minor fire broke out on the vessel as a result of the attack, but no injuries were reported. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as a violation of international law and announced that an investigation had been launched.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the drone attack carried out on Sunday morning against a commercial cargo vessel departing from Abu Dhabi while sailing in Qatari territorial waters northeast of Mesaieed Port.
The ministry stated that the attack caused a minor fire aboard the vessel, but no casualties or injuries occurred. It emphasized that the incident constituted a clear violation of international maritime law and the principle of freedom of navigation.
The statement also described the attack as a serious escalation threatening the security of maritime trade routes in the region, stressing that all attacks against commercial and civilian vessels are contrary to international law.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the incident is being thoroughly investigated and that coordination is ongoing with relevant regional and international bodies to identify those responsible. Qatar also reaffirmed its commitment to maritime security and the principle of free passage through international waterways.
