Starmer said the UK will not be involved in the conflict
London, April 2 (Hibya) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the UK will host an international summit this week with the participation of 35 countries in order to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed due to the conflicts in the Middle East.
According to CCTV, the leaders’ meeting, which will be chaired by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, aims to ease the severe pressure that the blockade in the region is placing on the global economy.
At a press conference, Starmer said that the focus of diplomatic efforts is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and securing the safe flow of essential commodities.
Stressing that the UK will not be involved in the conflict, Starmer emphasized that the best way to cope with rising living costs is to reduce tensions and ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, called on allies to take on a greater role.
