Starmer: Thirty-six years ago, we witnessed one of the greatest disasters in our history
London, April 15 (Hibya) – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer published a message marking the anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer published a message marking the anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster.
In his message, Starmer said: "A disaster in which 97 people tragically lost their lives. Today, I remember them and honor their memory. Since that day, their families and loved ones have tirelessly fought for justice. Despite all the challenges they faced, they did not stop fighting. I promised to present a 'Hillsborough Law' to Parliament, a law that imposes legal accountability on public authorities and public officials, with criminal sanctions for those who fail to comply. I will deliver on this promise. After decades of injustice, we must pass this law correctly. We must achieve what the people of Liverpool have fought for over 36 years. By standing resolutely with the Hillsborough families, my government will make this happen."
On April 15, 1989, 97 citizens lost their lives in the tragic incident at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield Wednesday.
