UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk commemorated those who have fought for racial justice, equality, and freedom.

Noting that progress has been made in the fight against racism, Türk said: "International conventions and measures taken at the national level have led to significant changes. However, the progress achieved is being questioned, delayed, and even reversed."

Türk stressed that minorities around the world face discrimination, hatred, and rights violations, stating: "People of African and Asian descent, Jews, Muslims, and indigenous peoples are still subjected to serious discrimination."

Drawing attention to the fact that racism is the most widespread form of discrimination globally, Türk said that many countries lack comprehensive anti-discrimination laws.

Türk stated that hate speech is spreading uncontrollably and often targets minority groups, adding: "Systems based on historical exploitation make some countries and communities more vulnerable."

Türk emphasized that combating racism requires political will, saying: "Strong laws, accountability, and international cooperation are essential. Standing against racism means standing for human rights and justice for all people."
