Turkey's Reaction to UEFA over Demiral's Ban
Ankara, July 6 (8hibya)—The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey issued a written statement regarding the two-match ban UEFA imposed on national football player Merih Demiral for making a wolf sign after scoring a goal in the Austria-Turkey match.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying, "We regretfully accept UEFA's decision to suspend our national team player Merih Demiral for two matches."
The statement also noted that international sports events are organized to bring societies and countries closer together:
"This decision, which has caused deep disappointment among all our citizens both at home and abroad, strengthens the assessments indicating a growing tendency towards prejudice against foreigners in some European countries."
