Ukraine and Lithuania emphasize cooperation in defense and EU process
Brussels, May 11 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that during his meeting with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys, they discussed defense cooperation, the European Union (EU) accession process, and support for Ukrainian children.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha stated that during his meeting with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys, they reaffirmed the strength of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Sybiha noted that cooperation in the fields of defense and security was discussed during the meeting and said that the Ukraine-EU Drone Agreement could contribute to making Europe stronger and strategically more independent.
Sybiha also referred to recent drone incidents and reiterated that Ukraine is ready to send expert teams to Lithuania to share experience. The Ukrainian minister noted that this support aims to contribute to the protection of airspace.
Sybiha stated that the parties also evaluated urgent issues on the European Union agenda and shared the view with Lithuania that all negotiation chapters in Ukraine’s EU accession process should be opened as soon as possible.
Sybiha thanked Budrys for Lithuania’s “strong and principled stance” toward Ukraine.
Support efforts for Ukrainian children affected by the Russia-Ukraine war were also discussed during the meeting. In the joint statement signed by the two ministers, it was stated that Lithuania would provide 10 million euros in support for the protection, return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of Ukrainian children.
