UN Security Council to meet to discuss the situation in Iran
New York, Jan. 15 (Hibya) — The United Nations Mission of Somalia announced that the UN Security Council will hold a special session this evening to discuss the situation in Iran.
Earlier, a Security Council source told Novosti that the meeting had been requested by the United States.
Somalia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations responded “Yes, that is correct” when asked whether the meeting would be held on Jan. 15 at 23:00 Turkish time (15:00 New York time).
The President of the Security Council told journalists, “The Presidency intends to schedule a meeting on the situation in Iran under the agenda item ‘The Situation in the Middle East.’”
The meeting comes after Iran closed its entire airspace for about five hours overnight, causing many international airlines to reroute or cancel flights.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority reopened the airspace early Wednesday, and domestic and international flights gradually resumed.
