European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

In her statement, von der Leyen said the attack marked a dangerous escalation, extended her condolences to the families of those killed and expressed solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia.

Von der Leyen argued that attacks by Iran-backed groups were dragging the region into a spiral of violence, adding that global transportation and energy hubs were also being affected by these attacks.

Condemning the targeting of civilians, von der Leyen called for an immediate end to the attacks.
