Watts: We Are Concerned About the Violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Canberra, January 30 (Hibya) – Australian Deputy Foreign Minister Tim Watts stated that they are deeply concerned about the violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo following the attack by the armed group M23 on Goma with the support of the Rwandan Defense Forces.
Australian Deputy Foreign Minister Watts expressed Australia's deep concern over the outbreak of violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo after M23 attacked Goma with the support of the Rwandan Defense Forces.
He called for an immediate de-escalation and respect for the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, stating: "The parties to the conflict must fulfill their obligations under international law by ensuring the protection of humanitarian workers and unhindered access to vital aid."
Watts emphasized that Australia urges all parties to commit to a peaceful resolution of the conflict through regional peace initiatives.
