WHO: Measles outbreak spreading in Bangladesh
Geneva, April 30 (Hibya) - The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for urgent vaccination against the rapidly spreading measles outbreak in Bangladesh, aiming to reach 18 million children.
The WHO issued a warning regarding the rapidly spreading measles outbreak in Bangladesh, noting that the disease poses a serious risk, especially for young children.
Afrida, who brought her two children to a hospital in West Dhaka for emergency vaccination, called on parents, saying, “I brought them because I know the vaccine will protect them.”
Authorities emphasized that measles, which is highly contagious and potentially deadly, spreads rapidly in areas with immunization gaps and poses a major threat, particularly to young children.
The Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched an emergency measles-mumps vaccination campaign covering children aged 6 months to 5 years, regardless of their previous vaccination status.
With the support of WHO and its partners, the campaign aims to reach 18 million children nationwide, including in Cox’s Bazar.
