Wong: We advise Australians not to travel to the UAE
Canberra, March 8 (Hibya) – Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced that due to the deteriorating security situation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), it has been decided to evacuate the dependents of Australian officials serving in the country.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated that a new security directive has been issued covering the staff of Australia’s diplomatic missions in the UAE and their families in response to increasing security risks in the region.
Wong noted that travel advice has been updated, saying: “Due to the deteriorating security situation, the Australian Government has instructed the dependents of Australian officials serving in the UAE to leave the country. Our travel advice has been updated to reflect this directive.”
Speaking about general security warnings for Australian citizens, Wong said: “We continue to advise Australians not to travel to the UAE.”
