Anand: The Interests and Well-Being of the Haitian People Must Be at the Center of All Efforts
Ottawa, February 8 (Hibya) – Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said the mandate of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council has ended, reaffirming support for the country’s security and democratic stability.
In a statement on Haiti’s political situation, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said, “Today marks the end of the mandate of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council. This transition is an important step toward renewed governance and stability for Haiti.”
Anand stressed that Prime Minister Fils-Aime and his cabinet must work to improve the security situation and organize general elections to restore Haitians’ right to choose their own leaders.
Noting that Canada is ready to help restore the security of the Haitian people, ensure democratic stability, and prioritize country-led solutions, Anand said, “The interests and well-being of the Haitian people must be at the center of all efforts.”
