Costa: Drug trafficking has become a strategic threat for Europe
Brussels, April 30 (Hibya) - European Council President Antonio Costa emphasized that the growing scale of drug trafficking has become a strategic threat for Europe, requiring coordinated action at local and international levels.
Costa stated that drug trafficking and its associated risks are becoming increasingly complex and widespread, drawing attention to key issues affecting citizens’ daily lives in Europe.
Costa noted that more than half of the most dangerous criminal networks in the European Union are linked to drug trade, adding that this poses a strategic threat to cities, economies and citizens’ safety.
Emphasizing that solving the issue requires coordinated efforts at local, national, EU and international levels, Costa said he had met with experts and leaders from relevant European institutions to exchange views.
It was stated that the current situation and possible solutions in the fight against drug trafficking were discussed during the meeting.
