Costa: The EU is starting the countdown to the next enlargement
Brussels, April 22 (Hibya) - European Council President Antonio Costa spoke about the progress Montenegro has made in its European Union (EU) membership process and the union’s enlargement strategy.
European Council President Antonio Costa stated that Montenegro’s accession negotiations have entered a new phase.
Congratulating Montenegro on its achievement, Costa said: “Congratulations to Montenegro; today we took a major step on your path toward joining the European Union. The decision to establish the Working Group to prepare the draft of the new Accession Agreement is an important turning point.”
Drawing attention to the historical dimension of the enlargement process, Costa said: “For the first time since 2014, the EU is starting the countdown to the next enlargement.”
